In the contest El Porc del Demà we have invited the public to play the game of the future. What will the farms look like in the future? At trial, will people swear to tell the truth about a black bull? How many seats would a party made up of piglets get? The book you have in your clutches brings together the finalists and winners of El Porc del Demà, a literary contest of stories about the catastrophe of the pig industry organized by the Grup de Defensa del Ter (GDT), Justícia Alimentària, Càrnies en Lluita, Setembre i Pol·len Edicions. They are: Oscar Arenas Larios; Núria Barnolas; Sabina Batlle Baró, Xavier Bayle; Igor Cano; Miquel Casadevall; Maria Donlo Sarasua; Javier García Lapiedra; Javier Martínez Aznar; Gil Pratsobrerroca Ferrer and Maria Sevilla Paris.
The idea of weaving a competition to bring out, in a dystopian way, the intensive system of the meat industry is based on a global problem, and a need to rethink the food system. In Osona they are pioneers in the pig disaster, but it quickly spread. First in Catalonia, where 41% of groundwater bodies are currently contaminated by nitrates, and then throughout the peninsula. The pig sector is the fourth largest industry in Spain, fattening and slaughtering more than 50 million pigs a year. Although Spaniards consume 4 times the amount of meat recommended by the World Health Organization, more than 50% of the pork produced here is exported.
